Citric acid is naturally found in citric fruits and juices, providing the characteristic acidic taste. EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) is a chelating agent, used to sequester and decrease the reactivity of metal ions that may be present in a product.

Glycerin is a naturally occuring alcohol compound and a component of many lipids. (Source : EWG) Glycerin is used predominantly in cosmetics for its ability to absorb and retain moisture (humectant). It's a well studied chemical known to be non-allergenic and non-comedogenic unless used in high concentrations.

Phenoxyethanol is a preservative used in cosmetics and personal care products.

Next to water, this is the most common moisturecarrying vehicle used in cosmetic formulations. It has better skin permeation than glycerin, and it also gives a pleasant feel with less greasiness than glycerin. Propylene glycol is used as a humectant because it absorbs water from the air. It also serves as a solvent for anti-oxidants and preservatives. In addition, it has preservative properties against bacteria and fungi when used in concentrations of 16 percent or higher.
